How Consistent Is Your Luck?

Just imagine my surprise as I cracked opened this fortune cookie last night. Determined to get the message out, this fortune had a lot to say to me.

It's not every day that I go out and order Chinese food. But with a low budget and living in Brooklyn's Chinatown, it's cheap and convenient. I just moved to New York City for the summer and as a recent Communication graduate, I figured, why not give it a shot. See what I can offer to the Mecca of Public Relations. I have done it: Networking, job interviews, informational interviews, temp opportunites, volunteer work... It hasn't been easy and I am not giving up, but I have to keep asking myself that question: What can I do more of?

I recently read an article about a college graduate who used his creativity to tell companies how he needed a job. He dressed up as a duck, sent out press releases and stood in the one of the most busiest streets with a sign that said he needed of a PR job. Yeah, it was extreme and it only got him a last minute local reporter to cover his story. But on the bright side, every time he is asked to come in for an interview, he is able to talk about how he came up with his own campaign. He isn't giving up.

Currently,I have even started my own freelance work for a couple of local bands and musicians in the city: Kain Naylor, Chimneys, Dirt Floor Revue. In addition, I have volunteered my PR skills to the New York City Rock Camp.

There are days when I feel discouraged but it is important to stay consistent and positive. It will get you somewhere. I believe it. Determination will get you through this. Thanks to my fortune cookie for the inspirational pep talk.
